We live along the edge of a 140 acre lake. Each year, we have two to three wild mute swan families raise their young here resulting in 25 to 30 young signets growing up on our lake each year. It is not uncommon for the growing signets to come to feed along our shore line. It is so neat to watch them grow and become adults that take off in the fall for places unknown. But, several are sure to return each spring to raise their families.
I have always loved drawing, painting and photography; although, drawing and painting were my earliest love as a kid. In high school I took one art class my senior year under Miss Barbara Olson. She suggested that I consider taking an art major in college. My father had other ideas! As a result, this love was put aside until I was nearing retirement. I began taking a few drawing, colored pencil and water color classes at Chicago's Morton Arboretum. I am finally getting a chance to do what I really love to do! Today, I try to fill our townhouse entryway, lake shoreline and our house with flowers. When my husband and I...

What a treat that must be! What kind of swans are they? Thank you for submitting this fine image of this wild bird. It is now featured on the homepage of Wild Birds Of The World - A Nature Photography Group. L/F
Barbara Ebeling replied:
These are wild mute swans. They have beautiful curved necks and orange beaks and have between 8 to 12 signets a year. They started coming here about 20 years ago and about 3-4 pairs keep returning each year. Have no idea where the rest go . . . someone is getting lots of beautiful swans!!!!
