These day lilies I planted a few years ago along our shoreline on Lake Walloon in Plainfield, Illinois. In about late July they burst in to their fabulous colors! This colored pencil drawing took me about a week to complete. I tried to capture the essence of my garden flowers.
I have always loved drawing, painting and photography; although, drawing and painting were my earliest love as a kid. In high school I took one art class my senior year under Miss Barbara Olson. She suggested that I consider taking an art major in college. My father had other ideas! As a result, this love was put aside until I was nearing retirement. I began taking a few drawing, colored pencil and water color classes at Chicago's Morton Arboretum. I am finally getting a chance to do what I really love to do! Flowers and gardens have always been a love of mine even as a kid as I pulled weeds in my mother's Wisconsin flower garden.
